But the trend lately has been to move away from leather and towards high-quality cloth.

As a post I once read on a BMW forum said, “for that kind of money, I want to park my ass on some dead cow!”

BMW and Mercedes would like a word with you.

And I know I’m in a minority but cloth>leather.

No no no no no no no no no.

(seriously, car interiors here get REALLY freaking hot, leave leather as an option on all cars).

Try saying that when it’s -30 celsius out. Cloth is way better in the cold, and in the heat too.

Kinja'd!!! Gamecat235 > jkm7680
01/05/2016 at 19:42

Kinja'd!!!1

Still sticking with option. I’m gonna say you’ve never tried to enter a vehicle that’s parked in the sun all day, with leather seats, while wearing shorts, when it’s 112 F outside.

It’ll change your mind.

This this this this this this this.

Cloth needs to be an option, at the least. I’m okay with it being the default on any base model, period.

Leather burns your thighs and ages poorly in places that actually have good weather most of the time. (That’s not even getting into the folks who have a moral opposition to covering their car interiors in dead animal, either—though admittedly, that’s a minority.) It’s just a garbage material for car interiors, though. Give me cloth, all day, err’day.

I was stationed in Louisiana in the mideighties and I had a ‘76 Nova with floor-mounted three-speed. The shifter had an aluminum Hurst shift handle. I’d get in that car and the shift handle was so hot it would burn your hand; you literally could not touch it without a layer of insulation and I’d think, Am I actually in Hell? Is this really allowed ?

No leather. It’s even worse in the cold.

But looking at the sheer volume of cloth seated $50,000 SUVS, I’d imagine they have a little trouble getting rid of them. Since the average customer is a 45 year old housewife.

I lived in the TX desert most of my life. No thank you Ill, Ill take a high quality fabric please.

Leather reminds me of old cars anyways. Like big wooden steering wheels and chrome on everything.

Oh yeah, wood does not belong in a car either.

GM actually uses a rather mediocre pleather. But yeah, probably should be standard on a $50K car. On the other, and more common sensical, hand...why would one be at a GM dealer if they want to spend $50K on a car?

sensatec Vinyl and “The Ultimate Driving Machine” should not be two things that are combined together in a sentence, or with the name BMW, like, ever.

Speaking of which, what happened to all the cloth Recaros??? Not even the FiST has something akin to these as a cheaper alternative to the leather ones, not to mention the true hot-hatch pedigree associated with them.

Get a c5 Audi A6 with tan leather and the hit weather package (sun shades, solar roof to keep air circulating). At 95F everything is fine, at 110F it is a little hot, but bearable.
